An Extraordinary Reading List

Posted by Mirela Mendoza on

Social distancing has become a part of our lives, and as most of us are spending a lot of time at home, many have been seeking out ways to keep themselves entertained and positive during these times. Some may love to unwind to a good comfort movie or binge-watch their favorite show; but for me, there’s nothing as comforting as a good book. Reading offers you a way to disconnect into a new idea for hours, whether you prefer to read novels, best-sellers, philosophy or even economic books! Enjoying some quiet time to read provides us with an opportunity to educate, uplift, and inspire ourselves that can really make a difference right now.

That's why I wanted to share a couple of my favorite books and current readings with you!

The Power of Now

Eckhart Tolle

I found this book because it was listed as a recommended reading by Oprah Winfrey. Tolle talks about the practices of mindfulness and identifying your thoughts, because you are so much more than what you think! It really amazed me to realize how much time we spend worrying about the future, or dwelling on the past. It's a book that encourages us to take the reigns of our own minds, and focus on the beauty and love around you. An extraordinary reminder to look at the world with new eyes and enjoy all of its wonders.

Conversations with God

Neale Donald Walsch

I will forever be grateful for this book, it changed my life. The author explains how God communicates with us all the time and we are able to listen to Him through our feelings and our experience. It's an extraordinary way to view the world and our place in it, encouraging us to be grateful for what we have now instead of living in a state of wanting. The book it’s an invitation to open your heart and your mind, remembering that self-love is key to happiness. I'm eager to read it again soon!

Super Simple Foods

Alessandra Chumaceiro, Carolina Chumaceiro

This book was one of the best recommendations I've received during the last months. It won a Gourmand Awards -one of the most prestigious gastronomy book awards- and it's written by two Venezuelans! The pictures are gorgeous, and every recipe is very well explained and easy to prepare, including healthy and practical recipes, as well as some traditional Venezuelan dishes, likes Arepas, and Cachapas. Their philosophy is something I love: "Less is more, so keep it simple!"

Your Erroneous Zones

Dr. Wayne W. Dyer

This book talks about stopping negative thinking and enjoying life to the fullest. It focuses on how approval seeking is ingrained in our culture; how we may be doubting ourselves, and not being able to process our feelings to achieve the result we wish for. It has great lessons about managing criticism and helping you realize that people have different experiences. It really is an eye-opening read, talking about accepting responsibility for your actions and stop saying sorry and apologizing for every single thing, mistake or not!

Complete Wellness: Enjoy long-lasting health and well-being.

Julie Wood, Pat Thomas, and Susan Curtis

This book is an extraordinary recipe book focused on self-care for every part of your body with a holistic approach. It shares instructions on how to take advantage of herbs, nutrients, and essential oils each area of your body needs to reach wellness. Whether you are interested in boosting your circulation, enjoy glowing skin, or maximizing energy levels it includes lifestyle strategies for incorporating easy and natural remedies into your life.

A New Earth: Awakening to Your Life's Purpose

Eckhart Tolle

I really like how this author allows difficult religious, philosophical, and psychological principles to come together. Overall it talks about what is wrong with the world: the human ego. Many of us want to change and grow to our fullest potential, yet we have no idea how to do this and find our life's purpose. So the book centers on how we can get past our ego-based consciousness to really experience happiness. It takes some patience to read through some of it, but it's worth it!

What’s on your reading list? There are so many other books I look forward to getting into during this time!
