The myths and facts behind CBD Oil

Posted by Mirela Mendoza on

In the last few years, there's been an extraordinary turn of events in the field of health. As we enter a time more focused on organic, natural, and sustainable approaches, it's only logical that we do the same with something as delicate as our well-being. One of the most revolutionary products in today's health field is CBD oil. If you live in the US, you’ve probably seen oils, creams, and even gummies labeled as CBD on store shelves; maybe you heard a friend talk about it or read an online article about the latest tests of this compound in the medical field.

CBD is a natural product that comes from the cannabis plant. We are usually predisposed to thinking of cannabis as a recreational drug that makes people "high". But CBD alone can help recovery from exercise-induced inflammation, support the management of stress, and promote a healthy sleep cycle. With so much talk about it, I decided to investigate a bit more and talk about what it is, what its benefits are, and the best brands on the market. So let's start at the beginning:

What is CBD exactly?

CBD is an acronym for Cannabidiol, a chemical found in cannabis plants. Typically CBD oils and extracts aren't extracted from marijuana— they come from hemp, which is a type of cannabis plant that contains less than 0.3 percent tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). That's why it does not induce the "high" typically associated with marijuana. Unlike THC, Cannabidiol doesn’t make you feel intoxicated.

Although hemp doesn’t get you high, hemp-derived CBD products can lead to noticeable mental and physical changes. Most people say they feel more focused or calm. While there isn’t enough solid research to fully confirm what CBD can and cannot do, a lot of people use it to help improve their lives in different ways. Nowadays, there's a lot of interest and ongoing research about CBD, but the user reviews show promising health benefits.

What are the facts and the myths behind CBD?

CBD will make you feel intoxicated.

FALSE: As explained before, any type of CBD product that comes from Hemp and has less than 0.3% of THC will not give you that "high" effect we associate with marijuana.

Hemp is the same thing as Marijuana.

FALSE: While both plants have CBD, they are different strands from cannabis. Hemp is the primary source of CBD products because of its low THC compounds.

Cannabis products are illegal.

FALSE: Products manufactured from agricultural hemp are exempt from the Federal Controlled Substances Act. But while CBD products with less than 0.3% of THC are legal on the federal level, they are still illegal under some state laws.

CBD is only effective combined with THC

FALSE: Hemp contains many compounds that help improve health and wellness. While there are many constituents of the plant, including THC, that work together, CBD can also be used alone. That's why you can find CBD products labeled as isolated or broad-spectrum, which means they contain all compounds found in cannabis except THC or only Cannabidiol.

What can you use CBD for?

CBD has been studied for its effects on anxiety, sleep disorders, and pain relief for several years. Most studies are pre-clinical or animal studies, but human studies of CBD have significantly increased in recent years, and the evidence is positive. Hemp extracts high in CBD can be an excellent approach to self-care, especially when it’s part of a comprehensive plan that includes a healthy diet, regular exercise, and practices to alleviate stress.

If you've read this far, you are probably wondering where to begin. I wanted to find a brand that offered CBD products from natural sources and with a good reputation. That's when I stumbled with Charlotte's Web . This company, founded by the Stanley Brothers, worked on a hemp extract that was shared with a girl named Charlotte Figi. Charlotte had Dravet Syndrome, a rare form of epilepsy, her story and the use of CBD was widely covered by international media. Charlotte’s Web is one of the oldest, most well-known CBD brands. They are very transparent about what goes into their products and their process, giving customers certificates of analysis, information about planting, and quality control.

They offer products centered on the well being, primarily focusing on those that induce a calming sensation that helps manage stress and promote a healthy sleep cycle. They have different concentration CBD oils, CBD capsules, and gummies formulated with other ingredients as L-theanine and Melatonin. They also have a line of topicals that include creams, balms, roll-ons, and cooling gels formulated with nourishing and moisturizing ingredients to keep skin healthy while featuring natural pain-relievers such as menthol, peppermint, lavender, and arnica. I think these are great for post-workout recovery. What I like the most is having a variety of options for including CBD in my routines.

I leave you the link for 15% off their products when you use the code MIRELAMENDOZA

I would love to hear more about what you think and if you’d introduce CBD products in your daily life. I’m eager to read your comments!
